Call for Nominations as Editor of Practical Assessment Research and Evaluation
The International Test Commission seeks nominations (self nominations are welcome) for an editorial team for the journal Practical Assessment Research and Evaluation. This journal is now being edited by Larry Rudner and publishes papers that address mostly educational applications of testing. The ITC is exploring the takeover of this journal as Dr. Rudner is hoping to retire from the editorship. If ITC adopts this journal, we would hope to expand its coverage to practical applications of testing in areas such as health care, organizational psychology and human resource issues and other areas in which tests are used and applied to understand human behavior as well as the educational arena. Hence we hope to attract a team of editors with experience and interest in various applications of psychology. Specifically, we are envisioning three editors—one from educational assessment, one from industrial/organizational psychology, and one from clinical psychology—that can oversee the review of manuscripts from these different areas. The editors will be able to appoint associate editors who would have expertise that complements his/her own portfolio. The journal is an open access journal; formatting of accepted articles is contracted out on an individual paper basis. The editor can expect to handle various administrative tasks associated with the journal including managing the journals’ website and uploading successful articles as well more traditional editorial duties such as establishing an editorial board, the assignment of reviewers, and writing decision letters. Successful candidates for this editorship should have a record of significant scholarly activity, give evidence of the ability to manage people and activities in a timely and competent manner, and be welcoming of test applications in diverse areas. Applicants can apply for one of the three categories (education, I/O, or clinical), or propose a team of editors to lead the Journal. The journal is currently supported financially by several organizational sponsors and the editor should expect to continue securing these sponsorships as well as other sponsors consistent with the broadened scope of the journal.
A nomination should include a letter explaining one’s interest in and vision for this journal, and a statement of one’s past experience and expertise relevant to this editorship. The nomination should also include a vita and three letters of recommendation. Nominations may be sent to Neal Schmitt (
[email protected]) Publications Chair of the ITC. He and other members of the search committee (Kurt Geisinger (
[email protected]) and Steve Sireci (
[email protected])) will be happy to answer your questions.
